A word of caution to engineers restoring old recording gear.  A KPIX engineer used his finger to rub residue off a knob and was transported into space.  You never fully know what you are cleaning when doing restoration work!

But as engineer Eliot Curtis recently discovered, those claims might actually hold some truth.
