Very interesting Jim. When did KARR last successfully decode a test sent via the SRN?

I have had great success using the Uniden BC355 series scanners.
You can buy them on Amazon for less than $100 new.
I am currently using three of them without any failures for my KARR Sage Endec:
NWS 162.550, SRN 155.475, and LRN 450.0875.
All three sit neatly side by side on a 19” rack tray.
The external audio in the back connects directly to the Sage Digital Endec Audio In at the correct level.
The audio level is easily adjusted from the volume control while watching the audio level bars on the Endec Web .
To set the levels on SRN and LRN, simply set the BC355 to unsquelch and set the audio level on the noise.
For an antenna, I use a cheap discone antenna with a cable coax splitter to feed all three.
While the impedances are not perfectly matched, the losses are negligible.
Also, unlike some scanners, this one does not loose it’s settings on power loss.

They will work ok if the audio is from a discriminator tap and amplified before feeding into the EAS decoder.

Hi Gabe –
Scanners are, typically, not the best receivers for this purpose –
If you would consider an alternative – let me know as I have
Some additional data for you
Be sure and check the audio level going into your EAS Decocoder.

I’ve been working with Larry at WSP to troubleshoot our problem with receiving the SRN from Burch Mountain. Since two others have been able to decode from the SRN recently, I am bypassing our current radio scanner again and monitoring with alternate equipment tomorrow for further verification.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it to the meeting tomorrow morning, but I will provide an update after further testing.

Thanks for the report, Gabe –
It appears that the State Relay Network is in need of serious attention.
This will be on the agenda at the SECC Meeting –
Jan 14th at 930 – Hope you can join us in person or by phone.
Your report, heard by others, will be helpful

KWCC (Apple Valley TV) has not received the SRN from Burch Mountain recently.
However, we monitor our Local Primary KPQ AM and KPQ FM as well as National Weather Service and have received the regular RWT and RMT. They all use the same antenna, but when the Burch Mountain SRN relay was repaired this Summer, we noticed significantly low quality audio on two separate scanners for the SRN only. Previous to the Burch Mountain SRN issue and repair, we were receiving SRN messages. However, the NPT was received by KPQ August 7th, 2019 and we received their forwarded message.
I’m not sure if anything can be done to improve the quality of the Burch Mountain SRN, but we have no issues receiving KPQ or NWS on FM with the same antenna (NWS broadcast from Burch Mountain as well).
